Haiti - Environment : Petion-ville, Green Zone

Junior Chamber International Innovation of Petion-ville, with about 500 members, has launched in conjunction with the city of Petion-ville a week of activities to protect the environment around the theme : Petion-ville, Green Zone.

The objective of this event, which runs from November 19 to 22, 2013 is to raise awareness the population of this town about the problem of deforestation and also to promote a healthy, enjoyable and sustainable environment in accordance with objective (#7) of Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

During this period, the city schools will have conferences, debates and seminars on environmental issues. The planting of seedlings and CD distribution concerning the management and protection of the environment, are also included in the program.

Aware of the damage at a frantic pace of the environment (denuded mountains, uncontrolled construction, forest cover less than 2%), Ms. Daniella Jacques, President of the Junior Chamber International Innovation of Petion-ville, is convinced that "citizen mobilization of Haitian youth can help in the fight for the management and protection of the environment and reiterates "the manifest intention of the organization to continue to provide support to local authorities of the municipality and of Ministry of the Environment in order to prevent the potential harmful effects of environmental degradation."

Junior Chamber International Innovation of Petion-ville is a voluntary association of young people aged 18 to 40 who pursue the goal to positively change their communities by the implementation of projects that meet social needs. JCI Innovation of Petion-ville is a decentralized structure of JCI Haiti that is present in 9 departments of the country.
