Haiti - Culture : New European program of support to the Haitian cultural sector

The European program "Pwogram Ewopeyen pou Kore Kilti" (PEKK), conducted in coordination with the organization Volunteering for the Development of Haiti, the NGO "Cooperazione Internazionale" and AfricAméricA Foundation, is one of the latest initiatives of the European Union, which aims to increase the contribution of this sector to the of this sector to economic and social development of Haiti.

Targeting several professional and cultural organizations in 10 departments of the country, PEKK has already allow to allocates to 10 recipients of subsidies in order to assist them to undertake cultural initiatives, improve their techniques and know-how to penetrate with their works new international markets, particularly in Europe.

PEKK program will act on several aspects including training, which will introduce an academic curriculum in the management of cultural organizations. The latter will become a wholly-studies discipline, sanctioned by a state recognized diploma.

Moreover, support to organizations in the regions will help develop their cultural potential by providing a showcase for their products at both national and international level.

Recall that the PEEK is a continuation of actions undertaken by the ARCADES program (Support to the Strengthening of Culture and Arts and Economic and Social Development) and is conducted in parallel with the European Programme for the Support of Cultural Initiatives (PESIC).
