"Pope Francis, through the Dicastery for the Service of Integral Human Development, has decided to send a first contribution of 200,000 euros to help the population in this emergency phase, aggravated by the already difficult situation caused by the Covid-19.

This sum, which will be distributed in collaboration with the apostolic nunciature, will be directed to the dioceses most affected by the disaster. It will be used in works of assistance to the victims of the earthquake and is intended to be an immediate expression of the feeling of spiritual closeness and of fatherly encouragement towards the people and the territories affected, manifested by the Holy Father on the sidelines of the Angelus in Saint Peter's Square on Sunday August 15, 2021, with the invocation of the protection of the Virgin https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-34505-haiti-news-zapping.html

This contribution, which accompanies prayer in support of the Haitian population, is part of the aid that is activated throughout the Catholic Church and which involves, in addition to the various Episcopal Conferences, many charitable organizations."

Meanwhile, the Archbishop of Los Angeles José Gomez, President of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) urged the dioceses to raise funds to help Haiti, which, in addition to the earthquake, is suffering the consequences from Tropical Storm Grace.

In his appeal, Bishop Gomez admitted that many dioceses in the United States continue to be financially affected by the current Covid-19 pandemic, but he also recognized the generosity of the faithful and their deep concern for those most in need. He said he was confident that the faithful will respond with devotion to this effort.

The note posted on the USCCB website explains that the funds raised will be used to support the pastoral and reconstruction needs of the Church, but also to aid the efforts of Catholic Relief Services, the official relief agency of the Catholic Church in the United States that has worked in Haiti for 60 years.
