Haiti - Earthquake : The Digicel Foundation will invest $1 million in the reconstruction of several schools

Following the earthquake of August 14, 2021, hundreds of schools were damaged or completely destroyed in the departments of South, Nippes and Grand'Anse https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-34543-haiti-flash-at-least-266-national-schools-damaged-or-destroyed.html

The Digicel Foundation, with education as a priority area of ​​intervention, says it is deeply saddened by the situation and informs that it will invest one million US dollars in the reconstruction of several school infrastructures in the affected departments.

From October 1, 2021, the Digicel Foundation will unveil the eligibility criteria that will allow schools in the affected regions of the Great South to take part in this new initiative.

The evaluation report submitted by the engineers of the Digicel Foundation, indicates that 35 of the 186 schools built by the Foundation which were located in the regions affected by the earthquake suffered no damage to their structures.

For the few minor damages noted, the Foundation also undertakes to proceed with their repair and the rehabilitation costs will be added to the million US dollars allocated for the reconstruction of schools in the Great South.
