Haiti - FLASH : The international community will not intervene to resolve the country's insecurity

Tuesday, November 9 at a press conference at the American Embassy in Port-au-Prince, Todd D. Robinson the Assistant Secretary of State of the International Bureau in charge of the fight against narcotics and the application of the law (INL) , on a 3-day mission in Haiti, https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-35188-haiti-news-zapping.html declared that the international community will not come to the aid of Haiti to resolve the security crisis that crosses the country stressing "There are authorities in Haiti who are responsible for the security of Haiti, in particular the PNH [..] We will continue to work with members of the Government around this problem of insecurity. But it is not the international community that will intervene to save Haiti. It will be the Haitians, the Haitian authorities and the PNH who are responsible for the security of the country."

In addition, in order to support units fighting against gangs, the Deputy Secretary of State announced the donation of a first tranche of 60 vehicles to the National Police of Haiti (PNH). In addition, 200 protective equipment for the police will be delivered in the coming days "These donations show our commitment to support the National Police in its efforts to improve security and protect the population," said Robinson.

The US official, who arrived in Port-au-Prince on Monday, said Washington was taking the problem of insecurity in Haiti "very seriously" and Robinson pledged to work with local authorities to fight gang violence and develop police capabilities "During this trip, I had the opportunity to witness first-hand the cooperation between the Haitian government and the United States government in security assistance. We are proud to contribute to the growth of the PNH as a responsible professional institution and to the strengthening of its capacity through training, provision of equipment and advisers."
