Haiti - Cap-Haitien : The USA expels 70 Haitians despite insecurity in Haiti

Despite the growing insecurity problem in Haiti due to the increasing criminal activities of armed gangs, the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) deported 70 Haitian citizens to the city of Cap Haitien on Tuesday, December 3rd, 2024.

In addition, the Dominican Republic continues to deport Haitians in an irregular migratory situation. Dominican migration has deported 71,124 Haitians since October 2nd, 2024, when President Luis Abinader announced his intention to expel up to 10,000 Haitians in irregular migration situations each week https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-43778-icihaiti-dominican-republic-more-than-500-000-haitians-expelled-in-2-years.html

On the other hand, thousands of Haitians fleeing violence in Port-au-Prince have sought refuge in Cap-Haitien. A situation that has prompted Yvrose Pierre, the Mayor of Cap-Haïtien to ask the Government to declare a state of emergency in the city of Cap-Haïtien, whose territory is approximately 53 km2. "For me, the central government must declare a state of emergency for Cap-Haïtien. It cannot be only for Port-au-Prince."
