Haiti - Politic : PM's measures to combat insecurity

On Thursday, December 12, 2024, during a press briefing at his Official Residence, Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, also President of the Superior Council of the National Police (CSPN) of Haiti, unveiled a series of measures to combat insecurity.

Recognizing the seriousness of the security crisis, the Prime Minister immediately expressed his deep sympathies to the families of the victims of the recent massacres, particularly in Wharf-Jérémie https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-43812-haiti-flash-nearly-200-people-massacred-in-cite-soleil-provisional-report.html , Petite Rivière de l’Artibonite https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-43828-haiti-flash-bloody-reprisals-by-the-gran-grif-gang-in-petite-riviere.html and in other localities in the metropolitan region, before making public his clear and unequivocal instructions addressed to Me Patrick Pélissier, Minister of Justice and Public Security, in order to pursue and severely punish the perpetrators of these heinous crimes.

Concrete measures to strengthen security:

• Technical and financial reinforcement of the security forces, including the National Police and the Armed Forces of Haiti, in order to extend their operational capacity throughout the national territory;

• Immediate doubling of the fees of the police officers' prepaid card, in recognition of their commitment on the ground;

• 50% increase in the allowances of civilian employees of the PNH, to support and motivate their essential work, declared the Head of Government.

Call for collective mobilization :

The Head of Government recalled the importance of close collaboration between the police and the population "The National Police, the Armed Forces and the Government must imperatively play their role, but this also requires constant support from the population to overcome insecurity."

Humanitarian assistance and commitment to the future :

As part of the social measures, the Prime Minister committed to providing humanitarian assistance to internally displaced persons and deportees from the Dominican Republic and other countries.

Priority projects :

Reiterating his determination to restore security and justice in the country, the Prime Minister also recalled the importance of working on priority projects such as:

• Economic recovery;

• Constitutional reform;

• The organization of the next elections.
