The Office of Communication of the Presidency informs the general public that the President of the Republic, Michel Martelly, accompanied by the First Lady, Sophia Martelly will pay a historic visit to Japan from 27 to 30 August 2012.

Invited by the Japanese Government, the President Michel Martelly will meet with Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda as well as the President of the Chamber of Representatives Mr. Takahiro Yokomichi.

The President of the Republic will also participate in a working lunch organized by the Interamerican Development Bank (IDB) with Japanese investors and will take advantage of this travel to perform a visit in the region of Tohoku, more precisely in Miyagi prefecture, where he will lay a wreath in memory of the victims of the earthquake of 2011.

The official visit of the Head of State in Japan, the first of a Haitian president, aims to strengthen the ties of friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
