Haiti - Politic : National Assembly postponed but the dialogue continues

The session in National Assembly, scheduled for this Friday has been postponed to an undetermined date. According Levaillant Louis Jeune, the President of the Lower House, this decision was taken to facilitate dialogue between parliamentarians and the executive. An explanation that hardly mask the real reason : the lack of the quorum required to allow a two-thirds vote, or the appointment of 3 representatives of the legislative to the Permanent Electoral Council.

The Deputy Jules Lionel Anélus, which recognizes the difficulties of the Senate to obtain a quorum, has deplored the fact that many senators and deputies, did not respond to this convening, describing this attitude of irresponsible.

Despite this failure, the President Michel Martelly continued his openness to dialogue and met at the Karibe Convention Center that same day, accompanied by several Ministers [Ronsard St-Cyr, Mario Dupuy, Jean-Renel Sanon, Ralph Théano], of Guyler Delva, Secretary of State for Communication and of his advisers (including his special advisers Youri Latortue and Joseph Lambert), a group of senators of different sensitivities to discuss around the Permanent Electoral Council and of electoral process.

This closed meeting, which would have took place according to participants in a cordial atmosphere, brought together the Senators : Simon Dieuseul Desra, Andris Riché, Steeven Benoit, Maxime Roumer, Mélius Hyppolite, Jocelerme Privert, John Joel Joseph, Wencesclas Lambert, Carlos Lebon, Edwing Zenny, Willy Jean Baptiste, Lucas Sainvil and Dérex Pierre Louis.

In order to allow to all their colleagues to comment on the issue, the senators suggested another meeting with all senators, Tuesday, Sept. 4 in order to find a solution to the current impasse. Date confirmed by Dieuseul Simon Desras, the President of the Senate, which described this meeting of encouraging, without providing further details. Seeming optimistic, he simply indicated that the Senators and the Executive, were determined to find a compromise solution before September 15, 2012 at the latest.

At the end of this meeting, the President Martelly thanked the senators for their openness and reiterated his commitment to work towards the best interests of the Nation.
