Haiti - Politic : Presidency of Haiti to CARICOM preparatory meeting

Thursday, the President Martelly, received at the National Palace a large delegation of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), for a working visit in order to begin the preliminary discussions around the Presidency of Haiti to CARICOM, which begins January 2013.

The CARICOM delegation is composed of among others : The Ambassador Irwin J. Larocque, Secretary General, Ambassador Colin Granderson, Assistant Secretary General, Ambassador Earl Stephen Huntley, Director of the Representative Office of CARICOM in Haiti and Neville J. Bissember, Legal Adviser.

Several issues were discussed including: cooperation in the fields of education, vocational training and at the university level, the training of teachers, the presence of Haitian professionals within CARICOM, the implementation of the decision of the Haitian officials within the community and the integration of the French language in the work of the Caribbean Community.

In anticipation of the Presidency of the CARICOM by the Head of State of Haiti, the CARICOM Secretariat informed the President Martelly, than the other two members, the President of Suriname and the Prime Minister of St. Luciaof the Bureau of the Conference [Suriname, Haiti and St. Lucia] will travel to Haiti in November to ensure the trasfert of important dossiers of the Caribbean Community.

The Head of State and the CARICOM delegation said they were satisfied of these initial discussions.
