Haiti - Diplomacy : New Ambassador of Haiti to the Holy See

Mr. Carl-Henri Guiteau, who had handed his credentials to Pope Benedict XVI July 6, 2009, as Envoy Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, handed Thursday, as new Ambassador to the Holy See, his credentials to Dominique Mamberti, Secretary for Relations with States.

The Ambassador of Haiti to the Holy See, stressed "the spiritual strength of ties forged over the years between the people and congregations who have invested without counting in the training of young and the mentoring of families," while evoking the many wounds of Haiti : "The political violence, endemic poverty, young people without compass, broken families, the most vulnerable social groups victims of hunger and social exclusion."

For the diplomat, "the desperate cries of the people worried

to its future must [...] interpellate the national consciousness while relying on international solidarity," and lead to fight "among the poorest and weakest."

To the new Ambassador of Haiti, "the remedy involves a change of mentality." Moreover, he believes that the role of the Church in this area will be "fundamental" because "its national network offers it the opportunity to be close of young, of families and of populations."
