Haiti - Social : A truck overturned

Yesterday a traffic accident took place in the department of Artibonite, near Villard on the RN1. According to information available around 5pm, the driver of a Ford truck coming from Bainet in South East to Anse-à-Foleur in the Northwest has lost control of it, and overturned in a canal. More than 50 people were on board.

According to police, the truck fell into a canal and some of the passengers drowned while others were crushed by the weight of the vehicle. Speed ​​could also be involved.

"We counted 21 dead at the scene of the accident," said Dr. Rosny of the Hospital Saint-Nicolas de Saint-Marc, adding "another person died on the way to the hospital."

He described some of the injuries as "extremely serious", adding that these patients had been transferred to the General Hospital of Port-au-Prince.

30 people traveling in the vehicle were injured, some seriously, those with minor injuries were treated on site.
