Haiti - Agriculture : Launch of the debate on the agricultural recovery to Furcy

Thursday, Major David Basile, Minister of the Interior and Territorial Communities, which, represented the Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe, accompanied by a large government delegation, which included Mary Mimose Felix, Minister for the promotion of the peasantry and Fresner Dorcin Secretary of State of Crop Production, has proceeded to the launch of the community debate on the agricultural recovery, to Furcy.

This first debate, held at the initiative of the Prime Minister, was attended by Herbie Smith, Director of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), Jean Robert Estimé, Project Director "Feed the Future West/WINNER", the Deputy of Kenscoff, Gustave André Louis, Interim executive agents of Kenskoff and several representatives of the Civil Society of Kenscoff.

In his speech the Minister Basile, assured participants of the efforts made by the Government to improve the situation of the inhabitants of the town of Kenscoff. According to the Minister, "the initiative of the community debates reflects the Government's desire to be closer to the population, collect the grievances of farmers, be determined with them the true nature of their problems and consider all the appropriate responses to the benefit of the population."

The launch was also an opportunity for the Minister to make an inventory, round the projects initiated by the government in the agricultural sector, mainly dredging works, soil conservation and development of Centres of packaging of fruits and vegetables funded by USAID through the project 'Feed the Future West/WINNER'. It also transmitted to the participants, the desire of the Prime Minister, to see developing in Haiti a modern agriculture.
