Haiti - Sports : «Sports Festival of the Women» first day disappointing

As part of the "Festival Deportivo de Mujer" (Sports Festival of the Women), organized by the Dominican Ministry of Sports and Olympic Committee, that puts in competition several cities of the Dominican Republic, 50 Haitian athletes participate from March 15 to 17 in athletics, volleyball, weightlifting and football. This sporting event, is held for the first time in the Dominican Republic, at Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center (Santo Domingo).

During the first day of competition, the national selection Haitian of volleyball was defeated 2 sets 0 by the formation of "Las Primas" [a district of the Dominican Republic].

The starting line up was composed of Jeannève Scutt, Esther Joachim, Rachelle Laurentis, Lyphia Jean-Baptiste, Olmine Beaucéjour and Lourdia Pélicier aka "Pépé". In a first set more or less mastered the Haitian team despite its combativity, lost 25-23before a much more disciplined Dominican team [one set 0]. In the second set, our national team experienced a slowdown. Dominated by 6 points difference, Las Primas team won the set 25/18 [2 sets - 0 in favor of the Dominican]

In Athletics at 1,500 meters the two Haitian athletes: Bertine Lainé and Carline Lamour failed to qualify. Bertine Lainé finished in seventh place (5’18’’ 88) and Carline Lamour in 8th place (5’20’’ 35). The first 3 places in the event, was won by the Dominicans : Deimi Padilla (4’ 39’’ 55), Sorandy Rodriguez (4’ 51’’ 41) and Jordania Dia (4’ 55’’ 81).
