Haiti - Literature : 8 women writers honored

Monday at the Municipal Palace of Delmas, 8 Haitian women who have devoted their lives to writing : poets, novelists, short story writers, educators, art critics, and deposited their footprints in the great book of the history of Haitian literature have been honored. Marilisse Neptune Rouzier, Paula Clermont Péan, Evelyne Trouillot, Charlotte Barlatier Cadet, Marianne Lehmann, Marie-Marthe Balin Paul, Edith Lataillade et Marie-Alice Théard received during a ceremony a plaque of honor and merit for their contributions to the development and enrichment of Haitian literature.

The evening ended with a superb performance of Congolese band "Drums of Brazza," invited by the Ministry of Culture. Created in 1991 by Emile Biayenda "Drums of Brazza" combines African traditions and modernity by mixing drums, "Ngoma", drums, bass, guitar and other modern instruments. A show of the band "Nègès Fla Vodoun" (Percussion, voice, choreography, improvisation, interaction between public and artists) has enthused the audience came to honor these 8 Haitian writers.

This tribute follows one issued posthumously on March 8 by the Ministry of Culture of 8 great ladies of Haitian literature [Ida Faubert. Marie-Thérèse Colimon Hall, Mona Guérin Rouzier, Yanick Jean, Marie-Vieux Chauvet, Yvonne Hakim Rimpel, Paulette Poujol Oriol, et Mireille Durocher Bertin] within the framework of official launch of "Women and Ink" on the occasion of the International Day of Women.
