Monday, April 8, Michaëlle Jean, UNESCO Special Envoy, in Mission in Haiti since last Tuesday, accompanied by Mona Nemer, Vice President Research at the University of Ottawa, Geneviève Dallemand Pierre, specialist National of Education program and Micheline Laflamme, Communications Adviser, met with Marie Yanick Mézile, Minister for the Status of Women and Women's Rights. The discussions focused on a program of the University of Ottawa, to encourage the training of women and academics of both sexes, in the field of entrepreneurship. Several possibilities involving the most concerned sectors including the University of Ottawa and that of Haiti, the commercial and industrial sectors and sectors of entrepreneurship, including women engaged in micro-enterprise, were considered.

As part of these discussions, Marie Yanick Mézile already planning to initiate, during the summer, the first summer courses of entrepreneurship for women through the three houses of women already established in Cap-Haitien, Port-au-Prince and Les Cayes. These spaces are of new structures put in place by the MCFDF to provide opportunities for women to expand their knowledge to be better integrate into the labor market.

Recall that during her last visit to the Ministry for Women, Michaëlle Jean promised to intercede with Unesco in favor of a set of projects that the Minister Mézile entrusted to her. Also, the Minister for Women believes that Ms. Jean is currently fulfill the promises made ​​during her last visit and has expressed appreciation for this fruitful meeting, result of a successful partnership between the Ministry and UNESCO.

For her part, Ms. Jean believes that the Government can rely on the experience of the Ministry in the field of entrepreneurship, noting that the development of Haiti will not be possible without the inclusion of women in the process.

This visit of Michaëlle Jean, falls within the framework of a series of activities aimed at supporting the Ministry to defend and to involve women. The Minister for the Status of Women, not only wants to build organizational capacity, promote and defend the rights of women, but also to raise awareness and educate. She hopes to reach the empowerment and improving the situation of women in the country with the support of the government and also relies on the support of Michaëlle Jean, "A Haitian woman who knows Haiti, and which also knows the situation of women in Haiti."
