Haiti - Social : Closure of the Consular Section of the Embassy of the United States of America

Following the passage of the first tropical wave of the season (OT1), which brought a lot of rain on several department in the country, and caused flooding in the metropolitan and peripheral region, the Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy in Port-au-Prince wishes to inform the public that it will be closed today, Friday, May 24, 2013, due to flooding in front of the Embassy. For the safety and security of our applicants, we are rescheduling all nonimmigrant and immigrant visa appointments for next Friday, May 31.

Those with confirmed nonimmigrant and immigrant visa appointments for May 24 should come for interviews at the same scheduled time on Friday, May 31. Only applicants with appointments on May 24 will be admitted to the Consular Section on May 31.

Please bring your original confirmation page to the interview. If your situation is urgent or you are unable to come for your rescheduled appointment, please write PaPNIV@state.gov and explain the nature of your emergency.

American citizen services

The American Citizen Services unit will be closed today for routine services. All previously scheduled appointments for May 24 will be rescheduled for another date. American citizens in need of emergency assistance should call 2229-8000 and ask to be connected to the duty officer.

OT2

In addition, the National Meteorological Center (CNM) of Haiti informs that the second tropical wave of the season (OT2) formed yesterday evening, is located this morning to the east of the Caribbean arc is expected to affect the southern regions of the country in the next 72 hours.
