Haiti - Politic : The Saga of the dates of convocation continues...

Tuesday, May 28, as expected, the Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe was not appeared before the Senators, following the request of the Primature to postpone the convocation to May 31.

Steven Benoit, on behalf of his colleagues of the opposition, asked the Office of the Senate to ignore the request of the Primature for postponement to May 31, "the Prime Minister has no authority to change the date of a convocation [...] It is for us to take a date [...]" Following the proposal of Senator Benoit, the Senate President, Simon Dieuseul Desras, has confirmed that the Senators met in plenary session, decided to postpone the convocation of the Prime Minister on June 4, 2013, but the date of the convening in Assembly extraordinary National initially convened by the President Martelly on May 28, was maintained on June 3.

The maintenance of this date sparked a strong reaction from Senator Benoit, who demanded in vain, that this date be postponed until after that of the convening of the Prime Minister "No session in National Assembly will take place before the ministerial cabinet responds to the call of the Senate !" His colleague, the Senator John Joel Joseph, goes in the same direction and warned that if this session at the extraordinary stands before the convening of the Prime Minister, at least 8 senators will be absent... The President of the Senate, strongly discouraged his colleagues to venture on this path and urged them to take all necessary steps to participate in the Assembly scheduled for June 3.

In parallel to this saga of dates, the Senator Moise Jean-Charles remained stuck on his position. saying that whatever the dates of convocations, the Prime Minister and his government will be interpellated, ensuring having the support and the signature of several of his colleagues...According to him "the Prime Minister has shown its inability to carry out the national boat [...] There are urgent problems that require solutions that the Prime Minister is unable to resolve" and is convinced that this interpellation of senators [opposition] will save the country...

Moreover the senators Tuesday adopted two resolutions, the first for the immediate dismissal of Bernard Degraff, Director General of the National Old Age Insurance (ONA) Office https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-8469-haiti-politic-the-director-general-of-the-ona-victim-of-aggression-in-the-senate.html and the second, submitted by Senator Moses gives a delay of one year to the MINUSTAH to leave Haiti [note that this is the second resolution on the subject passed by the Senate...]
