Friday in Petionville, the Ministry of Public Health in partnership with UNICEF, launched the Child Health Week, which will run until June 21 in the ten departments. The objective is to reduce the mortality rate due to infectious, parasitic and nutritional diseases in children of 0-5 years [88 by 1,000 in Haiti] and increase prevention in vulnerable areas difficult to access.

During this week, children will receive vitamin A as well as treatments against diarrhea. In addition, the vaccinations in progress will be completed and vaccination will be initiated for children who have not yet been vaccinated. For Dr. Florence D. Guillaume, the Minister of Health, this strategy is an important component to enable the country to meet its Millennium Development Goals, including the reduction of infant mortality.
