Haiti - Energy : Slight reduction of the electricity hours

The Directorate General of Electricity of Haiti (EDH) informs its customers in particular and the public in general that, through the rehabilitation of hydroelectric power station of Péligre, ours of supply in the metropolitan area who had recently increased to 14 hours to 18 hours in average by day, will be reduced slightly to about 16 hours per day. This reduction will be felt, among others in the areas of: Torcelle, Kenscoff, Tabarre Pernier, Road Nationale # 1.

Recall that the hydroelectric plant of Peligre, of a capacity of 54 megawatts, is the lung of the metropolitan area grid. However, with the launch of the rehabilitation project of this Central, the EDH has be obliged to top a first group of 18 MW in November 2012.

After a major evacuation of water of the lake Peligre, allowing the EDH to begin the underwater works, Saturday, Jan. 19, 2012, a second group of 18 MW has been shut down. This reduction of 36MW in production is responsible for the reduction of power available in the metropolitan area.

However, the simultaneous rehabilitation of the thermal power of Carrefour where work began in October 2012, will allow the EDH to recover 16MW of power generation capacity in the next 2 months, which will allow to partially compensate this loss.

Also, the EDH stresses that in close collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and the Agency for the Development of the Artibonite Valley (ODVA), the decline of water of the lake will allow that the masonry work at the level of irrigation canals for distributing water throughout the Artibonite valley, can begin. Work that will last until April 2013.
